The role of the senate

Following the English precedent of two houses of the legislature, a House of Commons and a House of Lords, the Founders created two separate houses, a House of Representatives and a Senate.The Founders believed that the Congress would be the first and most powerful branch of government.The Founders believed that the Senate would balance the interests and numerical superiority of common citizens with the property interests of the less numerous landowners, bankers, and merchants. They  expected them to be sent to the senate by the state legislatures.
Article I of the Constitution created and defined the United States Congress, granting to the two houses of the legislative branch such powers as the ability to collect taxes, coin money, raise and support an army, declare war, establish post offices, create patent laws, and establish a federal judicial system. Now were going to look into a couple of these items i am writting about.
All house members were elected every two years, but the senate members were elected for a six year term. This was designed to protect senators from temporary movements.  The 17th Amendment was put into place in 1913 that is when the senators were elected by the people. in the third clause of the 17th addmendment states "No person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen." I find that to be very interesting being that it seems that they were tring to make it that someone would not live extremely long past the time they served.
The president is “Commander-in-Chief” of the armed forces, but only Congress can “declare war.” The president appoints and receives ambassadors and “makes treaties,” but the Senate must confirm appointments and provide “advice and consent” to treaties. Historically presidents have led the nation in matters of war and peace. The constitutional power of the U.S. Senate to reject or ratify (by a two-thirds vote) treaties made by the president.
